About the role

This is a hands-on accounting role with real ownership. You will run the close, own the reconciliations, and help lay the bricks of a finance system that does not yet exist.

Responsibilities

  • Own the monthly close, including journal entries, accruals, prepaid amortization, balance sheet reconciliations, and P&L review.
  • Fluent in cost accounting and COGS, including standard costing, landed cost calculations, BOM management, and COGS variance analysis.
  • Consolidate books across multiple entities, handle intercompany eliminations, and ensure clean trial balances.
  • Build and maintain budgets, run reforecasts, and provide forward-looking financial analysis.
  • Lead the accounting team, manage and mentor staff accountants, and set high standards for documentation and compliance.
  • Handle sales tax and compliance, coordinate with outside tax advisors, and stay ahead of state-by-state cannabis compliance impacts.
  • Prepare schedules and documentation for audits, ensuring the auditors' job is easy.

Requirements

  • Current, hands-on cost accounting experience.
  • Multi-entity month-end close ownership.
  • Vast and recent experience with COGS, inventory valuation, and managing 100+ SKUs in a manufacturing or CPG environment.
  • Budgeting and FP&A ownership, including building budgets and running forward-looking planning and analysis.
  • Fluency in QuickBooks and ERP transition experience is a plus.
  • Precision, speed, and independence in handling tasks without needing supervision.
  • Able to raise concerns and identify issues before they become major problems.

Qualifications

  • Senior Accountant or Accounting Manager with 5 to 10 years of experience at inventory-heavy or CPG businesses.
  • Experience owning the close, reconciliations, and cost accounting in a manufacturing or CPG environment.
  • Knowledge of inventory valuation across warehouses, landed costs, BOM management, and COGS variance analysis.
  • Experience with multi-entity consolidations, intercompany eliminations, and standard cost systems.
  • Experience in budgeting and FP&A, including building budgets and providing forward-looking financial analysis.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks and ERP systems.
  • Experience with Tableau or similar tools for reporting.
  • Ability to prepare schedules and documentation for audits.

Pay

Base salary in the range of $120K to $150K, dependent on experience and the level you come in at. Performance bonus tied to clear deliverables. Real growth path as the finance org scales and you prove the case.

Schedule

Onsite 4 days a week at our office on the Santa Ana, Costa Mesa, and Irvine border. We work overtime until the books are dialed in. We almost never need middle of the night calls.
