About the role
This individual will work in support of the Warhawk Success Center (WHSC) to provide direct services to students. The Academic Coach helps students develop skills, behaviors and habits that contribute to success in college. These include academic and career goal setting, learning strategies, time management and organization, self-regulation and self-efficacy.
Responsibilities
- Fosters persistence and completion of a caseload of students
- Monitors progress of students in caseload with check-ins, scheduled meetings or proactive outreach and communication, responding to students questions, concerns and needs
- Conducts academic coaching through individual or group sessions that help students assess their own performance and develop academic success plans
- Assists students in developing self-efficacy by identifying and overcoming obstacles that may be impeding academic success; works with students to learn strong time management and organization skills; motivates students to practice self-regulation and take ownership of their academic success
- Helps students in identifying, developing and implementing learning strategies and study skills specific to course materials
- Refers students to appropriate academic personnel and support resources and collaborates with others to monitor and accelerate the academic progress of the students referred
- Performs duties that are unique to specific department or academic college
- Evaluate the academic progress of students completing the Academic Success Plan
- Maintain appropriate documentation of all meetings with students
- Maintain regular communication with students throughout the semester
- Conduct during-term and end-of-term student interventions as needed based on course performance and/or GPA
- Coordinate with faculty and staff to help meet students' academic needs
- Connect at-risk students with appropriate academic support programming
- Collect, document, and provide necessary reports related to departmental goals
- Other duties as assigned by the Director
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree
- 2-3 years of experience in higher education, student affairs, counseling, or other closely related field
- Strong time management and problem solving skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent written and communication skills
- Ability to communicate with a variety of campus constituencies
Preferred:
- Master's degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling, or other closely related field is preferred
