Regular, full-time exempt position in the Center for Academic and Career Success (CACS), reporting to the Dean of Curriculum.
About the Role
The Academic Success Coach optimizes the academic success of continuing undergraduate students (2nd year through graduation). This role supports the mission of developing career-ready graduates by coaching for academic success to increase retention and success to graduation.
Responsibilities
- Provide academic coaching to students following prescribed best practices.
- Develop and implement a success program for sophomore, junior, and senior students.
- Manage students who leave without completing their degrees (e.g., medical withdrawals or those needing to finish credits) to assist them in returning and/or completing their degrees.
- Coordinate group coaching, events, and activities via collaboration with other offices and people in CACS.
- Support student engagement software such as Smitty On.
- Teach 3 credits each academic year, typically First Year Seminar (FYS) in the Fall.
- Organize the Annual Spring Career Fair, engaging with other departments to handle specific duties.
- Serve as the main point person for the Handshake tool.
- Work in partnership with other offices and employees within and outside of CACS, especially those responsible for student academic success.
- Serve on assigned committees and provide support as needed.
- Collect and analyze data to make data-informed decisions.
- Submit reports, including an annual academic coaching report.
- Meet regularly with leadership to communicate progress, adhere to best practices, and engage in professional development.
- Communicate with Deans and CACS leadership on a scheduled basis.
- Participate in college software/technology implementation and use appropriate tools for the position.
- Participate in campus events such as Open House, Career Fair, Orientation, and Welcome Week.
- May supervise peer mentors.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Dean of Curriculum or designee.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education or related field.
- Demonstrated 3+ years in an academic coaching position or equivalent experience.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to helping at-risk and underprepared students succeed in an educational setting.
- Strong computer skills and ability to use varied online databases and current Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Publisher, Access, OneNote).
- Demonstrated experience in collecting, organizing, and presenting data via presentations and reports.
- Ability to work with detail and accuracy, maintaining student meeting records and required reports.
- Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Excellent communication and organization skills.
- Demonstrated ability to promote the College’s academic and career support services to the campus community and designated student populations.
- Highly developed customer service skills.
- Desire to share and adapt to the varied workload of a small college in a team atmosphere.
- Ability to work some weekends or evenings as needed.
- Ability to work with a broad range of diverse individuals and groups to form a safe and inclusive campus community.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in education or related fields (e.g., academic counseling, college student personnel administration, higher education, social work).
- Computer and software expertise, including database creation and manipulation, advanced Microsoft Office applications, and knowledge of online web-based applications such as Google Docs.
Pay
$62,353.20 - $65,625.00 annually.
