Description School Name: St. Martin of Tours Academy Location: 7708 El Cajon Blvd., La Mesa, CA 91942 Reports to: Principal Employment Type: Full Time Hours: Monday – Friday 7:30am – 3:15pm FLSA Status: Exempt Salary Range: $49,000 - $55,000 per year. The Diocese of San Diego is seeking a qualified, experienced and passionate educator who is deeply committed to developing Christ-centered, forward-thinking leaders to serve our future Church and our world. The classroom teacher develops a curriculum that meets developmental goals and instructional activities based on the standards adapted by the Diocese of San Diego. The classroom teacher is responsible for measuring academic progress and accomplishments of students towards their academic achievements on a regular basis and providing progress reports and report cards as required. The classroom teacher exercises open and respectful communication with families, students, staff, and administration and provides a safe, thriving, and respectful environment for all students in the classroom and on the school campus. Teaching Responsibilities Provides a grade-appropriate instructional program utilizing Diocesan standardsPlans grade-level appropriate lesson plans and unit plansPrepares and maintains a welcoming, neat, and orderly classroomAccurately assesses each student’s performanceSupervises students on the playground and at lunch as neededParticipates in faculty meetings, school committees, and in-servicesAttends other school functions and activities as requestedWilling to advance educational knowledge by attending conferences and professional developmentReturns voicemail and e-mail messages in a timely mannerCommunicates regularly with parentsSubmits assessment data as needed and completes tasks in a timely mannerDemonstrates a respectful demeanor with staff, students, and parentsObserves utmost confidentiality regarding parent, student, and staff information/conversationsOther duties as assigned by the principal Requirements Professional Qualifications: Bachelor’s DegreeAbility to develop engaging and grade-level appropriate lessons and activitiesAbility to instruct middle school children in learning new tasksAbility to teach middle school children's social skills and character-building traitsHas good communication skillsMaintains patience and compassion suitable for working with middle school studentsUp-to-date teaching credentialsA Clear criminal background check (a clear Livescan for the Diocese of San Diego is a condition of employment)A basic understanding and acceptance of Catholic School philosophy, goals, and objectivesAppropriate control and discipline techniques, which will enhance the learning environmentAbility to be flexible and work as a teamActive, practicing, Roman Catholic with extensive knowledge and adherence to Church teaching and life (preferred) Physical Requirements To successfully meet the needs of the students in his/her care, the teacher must: Spend the majority of the day standing in the classroom. While standing the teacher will frequently hold objects they are working with or demonstratingSit on an occasional basisWalk through the classroom and be able to maneuver in tight spaces between desks. Walk on both even and uneven surfacesDeal with students while kneeling or squatting, stooping, or bendingReach at, below, or above shoulder height with the dominant upper extremity; may require trunk or neck rotation to look back at the classAssist in moving children's desks and chairs to change the layout of the classroom to influence the learning situation. It is occasionally necessary to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 25 pounds from the office to classrooms While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to be inside the classroom. The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the classroom and preschool environment, as well as maneuver throughout the school facility to attend meetings, trainings, and other work-related events. The employee may be required to conduct trips to, from, and within various city and county-wide locations to attend trainings or workshops.
