4-H Carroll County AmeriCorps Member, Part-time

The College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES) Northwest District serves communities through research-based education and outreach programs, including 4-H youth development.

About the role

The Georgia 4-H AmeriCorps member provides 4-H programming directly to youth under the direction of the County Extension Agent. This includes planning, implementation, and delivery of programming such as in-school and after-school club meetings, camp, and other 4-H activities in Carroll County. The member will also assist with volunteer recruitment and transportation of youth, as well as data collection for AmeriCorps grant performance measures.

This is a half-time (part-time) AmeriCorps position serving for 12 months (September 1, 2026 – August 31, 2027). Members are required to log a total of 900 hours, averaging 20 hours per week. Position availability is contingent upon continued availability of federal funds.

This is a temporary national service position, not a traditional employment position. Federal regulations require a high school diploma or equivalent to apply. A valid driver’s license and U.S. citizenship are required. Applicants must submit to a complete criminal history background check, including an FBI fingerprint-based check. Individuals convicted of murder or those on the sex offender registry are not eligible.

Responsibilities

• Deliver 4-H positive youth development programming directly to youth, including:
  • Facilitating/teaching 4-H in-school club meetings
  • Preparing students for 4-H Project Achievement
  • Attending 4-H Summer Camp
  • Designing and implementing community service projects
  • Assisting with other 4-H base programming
  • Providing transportation to youth (55% of time)
• Support and provide leadership to the county 4-H Volunteer program by recruiting, screening, training, and engaging volunteers. Assist with coordinating the county volunteer registration database. Half-time members should recruit at least 3 new volunteers during their service (20% of time).
• Track and document data related to AmeriCorps grant performance measures, including administering surveys to youth and completing monthly reports (15% of time).
• Attend local, district, and state program activities and events, including the AmeriCorps New Service Year Orientation (October 6-7, 2026, at Rock Eagle 4-H Center), additional face-to-face trainings, and at least monthly webinars (10% of time).

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (required)
• Valid driver’s license (required)
• U.S. citizenship with proof of citizenship (required)
• Ability to provide the following documents: proof of citizenship (birth certificate or valid passport), Social Security Card, government-issued ID, federal and state tax forms, and high school diploma or equivalent
• Willingness to undergo a complete criminal history background check, including an FBI fingerprint-based check
• Willingness to work from the Carroll County Extension Office in Carrollton, GA
• One-year commitment to the position

Schedule

• Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (primary schedule)
• Some nights and weekends required for programming and events
• Average of 20 hours per week, totaling 900 hours over 12 months
