About the role

The Georgia 4-H AmeriCorps member provides 4-H programming directly to youth under the direction of the County Extension Agent. This includes planning, implementation, and delivery of programming such as in-school and after-school club meetings, camp, and other 4-H activities in Lamar County. The member will also assist with volunteer recruitment, transportation of youth, and data collection for AmeriCorps grant performance measures. Members must comply with AmeriCorps requirements, including quarterly reporting, monthly webinars, and required trainings.

This is a half-time (part-time) AmeriCorps member position serving for 12 months (September 1, 2026 – August 31, 2027). Members are required to log a total of 900 hours, averaging 20 hours per week. This is a temporary national service position, not a traditional employment position, funded through a grant from Georgia Serves (Georgia Commission on Service & Volunteerism) and AmeriCorps.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver 4-H positive youth development programming directly to youth, including:
    • Facilitating/teaching 4-H in-school club meetings
    • Preparing students for 4-H Project Achievement
    • Attending 4-H Summer Camp
    • Designing and implementing community service projects
    • Assisting with other 4-H base programming (some may be delivered virtually)
    • Providing transportation to youth
  • Support and provide leadership to the county 4-H Volunteer program by recruiting, screening, training, and engaging volunteers. Assist with coordinating the county volunteer registration database. Recruit at least 3 new volunteers during service.
  • Track and document data related to AmeriCorps Grant performance measures, complete monthly reports, administer surveys to youth, and perform data entry.
  • Attend local, district, and state program activities and events alongside the 4-H County Extension Coordinator. Participate in district and state-wide trainings, including the AmeriCorps New Service Year Orientation (October 6-7, 2026, at Rock Eagle 4-H Center), additional face-to-face trainings, and at least monthly webinars.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Valid driver’s license (required)
  • U.S. citizenship with proof of citizenship (required)
  • Must submit to a complete criminal history background check, including a fingerprint-based FBI check. Individuals convicted of murder or those on the sex offender registry are not eligible.
  • Must provide copies of the following documents: proof of citizenship (birth certificate or valid passport), Social Security Card, government-issued ID, federal and state tax forms, and high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must comply with the AmeriCorps Member Service Agreement.
  • One-year commitment to the position.

  • Segal Education Award equivalent to half of the Pell Grant ($3,697.50) upon successful completion of 900 service hours by August 31, 2027. The award may be used to pay educational costs at eligible post-secondary institutions or to repay qualified student loans.

Schedule

  • Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (some nights and weekends required)
  • 20 hours per week on average, totaling 900 hours over 12 months

Pay

Monthly stipend of $1,037.50.
