About the role

The Georgia 4-H AmeriCorps member provides 4-H positive youth development programming under the direction of the County Extension Agent. This includes planning, implementation, and delivery of in-school and after-school club meetings, camp, and other 4-H programming in Heard County, as well as volunteer recruitment and transportation of youth. The member will also assist in collecting impact data by administering surveys to youth and entering data into provided spreadsheets. Members must comply with AmeriCorps guidelines, including quarterly reporting, monthly webinars, and trainings.

This is a half-time (part-time) AmeriCorps member position serving for 12 months (September 1, 2026 – August 31, 2027). Members will log a total of 900 hours, averaging 20 hours per week. This is a temporary national service position, not a traditional employment position, funded through a grant from Georgia Serves and AmeriCorps. Position availability is contingent upon continued availability of federal funds.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver 4-H positive youth development programming directly to youth, including:
    • Facilitating/teaching 4-H in-school club meetings
    • Preparing students for 4-H Project Achievement
    • Attending 4-H Summer Camp
    • Designing and implementing community service projects
    • Assisting with other 4-H base programming (some may be delivered virtually)
    • Providing transportation to youth
  • Support and provide leadership to the county 4-H Volunteer program by recruiting, screening, training, and engaging volunteers. Assist with coordinating the county volunteer registration database. Members should recruit at least 3 new volunteers during their service.
  • Track and document data related to AmeriCorps Grant performance measures, complete monthly reports, administer surveys to youth, and perform data entry.
  • Attend local, district, and state program activities and events alongside the 4-H County Extension Coordinator. Participate in district and state-wide trainings, including the AmeriCorps New Service Year Orientation (October 6-7, 2026, at Rock Eagle 4-H Center), additional face-to-face trainings, and at least monthly webinars.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required by federal regulations)
  • U.S. citizenship with proof of citizenship (birth certificate or valid passport)
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Willingness and ability to work from the Heard County Extension Office in Franklin, GA
  • Must provide copies of the following documents: Social Security Card, Government Issued ID, Federal and State Tax Forms, High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must submit to a complete criminal history background check, including a fingerprint-based FBI check. Individuals convicted of murder or those on the sex offender registry or required to be on the sex offender registry are not eligible.
  • Must comply with the AmeriCorps Member Service Agreement
  • One-year commitment to the position

Skills

  • Independent judgment and passion for service
  • Ability to plan, develop, and direct educational programs for youth
  • Experience working with youth (preferred)
  • Light lifting and occasional work outdoors in adverse climate conditions

Benefits

  • Segal Education Award equivalent to half of the Pell Grant ($3,697.50) upon successful completion of 900 service hours by August 31, 2027. The award may be used to pay educational costs at eligible post-secondary institutions or to repay qualified student loans.

Schedule

  • Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (some nights and weekends required)
  • Average of 20 hours per week, totaling 900 hours over 12 months
