About the role

The Georgia 4-H AmeriCorps member provides 4-H programming directly to youth under the direction of the County Extension Agent. This includes planning, implementation, and delivery of programming such as in-school and after-school club meetings, camp, and other 4-H activities in Cherokee County. The member will also assist with volunteer recruitment and transportation of youth, as well as collecting required impact data by administering surveys and entering data. Members must comply with AmeriCorps requirements, including quarterly reporting, monthly webinars, and other required trainings.

This is a half-time (part-time) AmeriCorps member position serving for 12 months (September 1, 2026 – August 31, 2027). Members are required to log a total of 900 hours, averaging 20 hours per week.

This is a National Service position funded through a grant from Georgia Serves (Georgia Commission on Service & Volunteerism) and AmeriCorps. Position availability is contingent upon continued availability of federal funds. Federal regulations require a high school diploma or equivalent to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver 4-H positive youth development programming directly to youth, including:
    • Facilitating/teaching 4-H in-school club meetings
    • Preparing students for 4-H Project Achievement
    • Attending 4-H Summer Camp
    • Designing and implementing community service projects
    • Assisting with other 4-H base programming
    • Planning and development of 4-H programming
    • Providing transportation to youth (some programming may be delivered virtually)
    Percentage of time: 55%
  • Support and provide leadership to the county 4-H Volunteer program:
    • Recruit, screen, train, and engage volunteers
    • Assist with coordinating the county volunteer registration database
    • Recruit at least 3 new volunteers during service
    Percentage of time: 20%
  • Track and document data related to the AmeriCorps Grant performance measures:
    • Complete monthly reports
    • Administer surveys to youth
    • Enter data into provided spreadsheets
    Percentage of time: 15%
  • Attend local, district, and state program activities and events alongside the 4-H County Extension Coordinator, including:
    • AmeriCorps New Service Year Orientation (October 6-7, 2026, at Rock Eagle 4-H Center)
    • District and state-wide trainings
    • Monthly webinars
    Percentage of time: 10%

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Valid driver’s license (required)
  • U.S. citizenship with proof of citizenship (required)
  • Must provide the following documents:
    • Proof of Citizenship (birth certificate or valid passport)
    • Social Security Card
    • Government Issued ID
    • Federal and State Tax Forms
    • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must submit to a complete criminal history background check, including a fingerprint-based FBI check (individuals convicted of murder or those on the sex offender registry are not eligible)
  • Must comply with the Member Service Agreement
  • Willingness and ability to work from the Cherokee County Extension Office in Canton, Ga.

Skills

  • Independent judgment and passion for service
  • Ability to plan, develop, and direct educational programs for youth
  • Experience working with youth (preferred)

Benefits

  • Modest monthly living allowance: $1,037.50

  • Segal Education Award equivalent to half of the Pell Grant ($3,697.50) upon successful completion of 900 service hours by August 31, 2027 (may be used to pay educational costs at eligible post-secondary institutions or to repay qualified student loans)

Schedule

  • Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (some nights and weekends required)
  • Average of 20 hours per week
