About the role

The position involves performing applicable job functions of a Classroom Teacher, initiating/participating in categorical eligibility meetings, ensuring each child has a current IEP with required signatures, monitoring IEP implementation, reviewing and writing IEPs annually, creating and maintaining a special education file, providing advice on special education issues, conducting in-service sessions, collaborating with regular education staff, assisting students with medication, lifting/moving students, adapting food, and presenting a professional appearance.

Responsibilities

• Initiate/Participate in categorical eligibility meetings as an expert in a category of IDEA-BPL 101-746.
• Ensure each child has a current IEP with required signatures.
• Maintain and update IEPs annually.
• Create and maintain a special education file containing teacher assessments, IEPs, psychological evaluations, and pertinent medical information.
• Provide advice on special education issues to the building principal.
• Conduct in-service sessions for staff as required by district policies and state/federal regulations.
• Collaborate, consult, and instruct regular education staff on classroom inclusion, intervention, and modification techniques.
• Assist students with their physical, social, and educational needs.
• Inform appropriate staff of necessary medical and other information.
• Collaborate with regular education staff on classroom expectations and dynamics.
• Aid students in taking prescribed medication.
• Lift and/or move non-ambulatory students.
• Diaper and assist students with toileting.
• Adapt foods and assist in feeding students.
• Present a professional appearance appropriate to the teaching assignment.
• Show a well-rounded knowledge and understanding of multicultural issues.
• Perform teaching and reporting requirements identified as part of state and federally funded programs.
• Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Requirements

• Current Oklahoma Certificate as a Special Education Teacher.
• Bachelor's Degree in Special Education or meets the state requirement.
• Reports to: Building administrators.
• Contract: 182 days (+ New Teacher Induction week for teachers new to NPS).
• FLSA Classification: Exempt.

• Knowledge of English Language and Mathematics.
• Customer and Personal Services knowledge.
• Effective communication skills.
• Ability to write legibly and communicate in a clear and grammatically correct manner.
• Performance measures: Develop lesson plans, teach, evaluate student progress, assign grades, achieve curriculum objectives, enhance learning process and growth of students, utilize discretion, ingenuity, and independent judgment to meet job challenges.
• Establish guidelines/syllabus with appropriate instructional objectives, maintain classroom discipline, encourage learning with effective teaching techniques, promote acquisition of skills and knowledge to apply principles, theories, and other learning objectives, monitor student progress, provide an environment that encourages independent thinking, and demonstrate care and assistance for students with special concerns or needs.
