About the role

The position involves performing applicable job functions of a Classroom Teacher, initiating/participating in categorical eligibility meetings, ensuring each child has a current IEP with required signatures, monitoring IEP implementation, reviewing and writing IEPs annually, maintaining a special education file, providing advice on special education issues, conducting in-service sessions, collaborating with regular education staff, assisting students with medication, lifting/moving non-ambulatory students, diapering/assisting with toileting, adapting foods, and presenting a professional appearance.

Responsibilities

• Perform applicable job functions of a Classroom Teacher
• Initiate/Participate in categorical eligibility meetings as an expert in a category of IDEA-BPL 101-746
• Ensure each child has a current IEP with the required signatures
• Maintain and update IEPs annually
• Create and maintain a special education file containing teacher assessments, IEPs, psychological evaluations, medical information, and advice on special education issues
• Provide in-service sessions to staff as required by district policies and state/federal regulations
• Collaborate, consult, and instruct regular education staff on classroom inclusion, intervention, and modification techniques
• Assist students with physical, social, and educational needs
• Inform appropriate staff of necessary medical and other information
• Collaborate, consult, and receive instruction from regular education staff regarding classroom expectations and dynamics
• Aid in the physical and educational needs of students
• Communicate with parents and staff to enhance the learning process and growth of students
• Utilize discretion, ingenuity, and independent judgment to meet the challenges of the job
• Establish guidelines/syllabus with appropriate instructional objectives, maintain classroom discipline, encourage learning, and promote skill acquisition
• Maintain student progress (grading, feedback, behavior)
• Present a professional appearance appropriate to teaching the assignment
• Display a well-rounded knowledge and understanding of multicultural issues
• Perform teaching and reporting requirements identified as part of state and federally funded programs
• Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor

Requirements

• Current Oklahoma Certificate as a Special Education Teacher
• Bachelor's Degree in Special Education or meets the state requirement
• Reports to: Building administrators
• Contract: 182 days (+ New Teacher Induction week for teachers new to NPS)
• FLSA Classification: Exempt
