26-27 Norman North High School Special Education Teacher

About the role

This position serves as a Special Education Classroom Teacher at Norman North High School. The ideal candidate must hold a current Oklahoma Certificate as a Special Education Teacher and possess a Bachelor's Degree in Special Education.

Responsibilities

• Initiate/participate in categorical eligibility meetings as an expert in a category of IDEA-BPL 101-476.
• Ensure that each child has a current IEP (Individual Education Plan) with required signatures.
• Maintain and monitor the implementation of IEPs.
• Create and maintain a working special education file in a locked cabinet at the site containing: Teacher assessments that cover pre (beginning year) and post (ending year) evaluation of progress. The current IEP with required signatures. The most recent psychological evaluation; and Pertinent medical information.
• Provide the building principal advice on special education issues.
• Provide staff in-service sessions each year as required by district policies and state/federal regulations.
• Collaborate, consult, schedule, and instruct regular education staff regarding inclusion, intervention, and/or modification techniques.
• Assist the student in taking prescribed medication.
• Lift and/or move non-ambulatory students.
• Diaper and toilet students ages three to adult.
• Adapt foods and feed the students.
• Present a professional appearance appropriate to the teaching assignment.
• Display knowledge and understanding of multicultural issues.

Requirements

Essential job functions include performing applicable job functions of Classroom Teacher, initiating/participating in categorical eligibility meetings, ensuring IEPs are current and monitored, maintaining a special education file, providing advice on special education issues, providing staff in-service sessions, collaborating with regular education staff, assisting students with medication, lifting/moving non-ambulatory students, diapering/tooting students, adapting food, presenting a professional appearance, and displaying knowledge of multicultural issues.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must have a Bachelor's Degree in Special Education and a current Oklahoma Certificate as a Special Education Teacher.

Skills

Successful performance of the job requires good customer service/people skills, handling problems, and providing information and technical assistance as requested. Compliance with safety guidelines and policies to reduce accidents or injury to staff or students, adherence to school dress standards, proper attendance or leave policies, and other work-habits concerns for staff are also essential.
