26-27 AY Temporary Faculty Pool (Lecturer) - Geography
About the Role
The Geography Department at California State University, Fresno seeks qualified candidates to teach undergraduate courses such as:
- GEOG 141: GIS I: Data Display and Manipulation
- GEOG 142: GIS II: Data Creation and Project Implementation
- GEOG 143: GIS III: Spatial Analysis and Modeling
- Other classes identified to fulfill educational goals of current students
This is a temporary, part-time lecturer pool from which the department draws as needed based on student enrollment and funding. Appointments are contingent upon budget, enrollment, and order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement. Positions are often filled just prior to the start of the academic term, and appointees may need to begin teaching on short notice.
Responsibilities
- Adherence to and implementation of university and system-wide policies as directed.
- Preparation, delivery, conducting, proctoring, and grading of lectures, office hours, homework assignments, quizzes, class projects, and midterm/final exams.
- Teaching classes as scheduled throughout the entire semester in the assigned mode (asynchronous, synchronous, in-person, or hybrid).
Requirements
Education
- A Master's degree in Geography with an emphasis in Physical Geography, Human Geography, GIS, or a closely related field (from an accredited institution or foreign equivalent).
Experience
- Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
Preferred Qualifications
- Commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, evidenced by prior teaching experiences, evaluations, or other documentation.
- Experience in a closely related discipline.
Pay
The salary for Temporary Faculty with a Master's degree ranges from $5,507 to $6,677 per month when teaching full time (15 WTUs). Starting salaries are typically at or near the minimum of the range. Actual monthly salary is adjusted based on the number of WTUs assigned per academic term.
Schedule
- Fall 2026: August 19, 2026 – December 22, 2026
- Spring 2027: January 15, 2027 – May 26, 2027
The temporary faculty pool remains open for two academic terms. Applicants interested in remaining in the pool beyond this period must reapply.
