2027-2028 Body Imaging Fellowship

This one-year post-graduate fellowship program in the Body Imaging Division at the University of Virginia provides extensive training in all aspects of abdominal imaging, with a focus on image-guided procedures (ultrasound and CT) and abdominopelvic MRI.

About the role

  • Five tenure-ineligible Clinical Instructor/Fellow positions starting July 1, 2027
  • Training in a quaternary referral center performing MRI for a broad range of diseases, including prostate, colorectal, gynecological, and pancreatic cancers, as well as hepatobiliary diseases such as cirrhosis and primary sclerosing cholangitis, and MR elastography
  • Hands-on experience with procedures: solid organ and lung biopsies, abscess drainages, thoracenteses and paracenteses, thyroid nodule biopsies, and fluoroscopically-guided GI tract interventions
  • Opportunity to engage in clinical research supported by a robust data infrastructure
  • Optional overnight coverage program for ED patients (performed from home with subspecialty attending backup), which bolsters income and maintains general radiology skills

Requirements

  • MD or equivalent
  • Completion of a residency in diagnostic radiology at an ACGME-accredited institution or a diagnostic radiology residency accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC)

Application Details

Per the Society of Chairs of Academic Radiology Departments (SCARD), applications and interviews will not be accepted or offered until November 1, 2025. Applications may be submitted earlier but will not be reviewed until this date. Exceptions to the SCARD embargo include:

  • Applicants whose spouse/domestic partner is also applying for a medical fellowship in the same year
  • Internal candidates
  • Military candidates
  • International candidates (defined as applicants from programs that are neither ACGME nor RCPS-accredited; Canadian applicants are not excluded)

The position will remain open until filled. Required application materials include:

  • Cover letter/personal statement
  • Three current letters of recommendation
  • USMLE Transcript (including Step I, II, and III scores or equivalent)
  • ECFMG certification (if applicable)
