Five tenure-ineligible Clinical Instructor/Fellow positions in Abdominal Imaging are available for a July 1, 2026 start date. This one-year post-graduate fellowship offers extensive training in abdominal imaging, with a focus on image-guided procedures (ultrasound and CT) and abdominopelvic MRI.

About the role

As a quaternary referral center, the program provides experience in MRI for a broad range of diseases, including:

  • Prostate, colorectal, gynecological, and pancreatic cancers
  • Cholangiocarcinoma and hepatocellular carcinoma
  • Hepatobiliary diseases such as cirrhosis and primary sclerosing cholangitis
  • MR elastography

Clinical instructors will perform procedures such as:

  • Solid organ and lung biopsies
  • Abscess drainages
  • Thoracenteses and paracenteses
  • Thyroid nodule biopsies
  • Fluoroscopically-guided GI tract interventions

The fellowship is based in a premier academic community with robust data infrastructure for clinical research. The UVA Department of Radiology and Medical Imaging provides 24/7 final reads for ED patients, with optional overnight coverage from home for fellows, including subspecialty attending backup.

Qualifications

  • MD or equivalent
  • Completion of a diagnostic radiology residency at an ACGME-accredited institution or a residency accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC)
