About the role
The Downingtown Area School District is seeking enthusiastic ESY Paraprofessionals and Job Coaches to support students during the summer program from June 22, 2026 to July 23, 2026.
Responsibilities
- EES Paraprofessional:
- Completes ESY orientation and other teacher trainings as required.
- Provides individual and/or small group support to implement specific academic, behavioral, and/or physical accommodations as outlined by the Individualized Education Program.
- Maintains confidentiality of student records and information.
- Serves as a resource for students, promoting inclusion, socialization, and independence within the school setting and in the community.
- Supports students in community settings for community-based instruction and vocational programming.
- May provide direct student assistance with monitoring of medical condition, physical needs, personal care, feeding, and/or toileting.
- Exposure to body fluids.
- Provides intensive program level support, (academic, behavioral, and physical), to students in specialized classes: Autistic Support, Bridges, Life Skills, MDS, SAILS and Transition Program.
- Job Coach:
- Supports students independently in community settings for community-based instruction and vocational programming.
- Implements transition services to neurodivergent students, developing independent living skills, employability skills, job skills, employment opportunities, and other community participation experiences.
- Supports, shadows, and mentors Level I and Level II 1:1 paraprofessionals who assist in providing transitional vocational training to their immediate student as directed by Transition Supervisor.
- Aggregates and summarizes vocational data collected by both the individual coach and other paraprofessionals throughout the district to create a comprehensive data review for each marking period on individualized progress.
- Provides specific job coaching services on employability skills, monitors and evaluates students at volunteer and paid employment locations within the community.
- Establishes contact with community business leaders to develop opportunities for students to participate in job skills training, employability skills training as well as paid employment, internship, and job shadowing opportunities.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience working with children.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Proficiency in the use of technology.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Secondary aides must have and maintain a valid state vehicle operator's license and good driving record, and comply with DASD procedures for transporting students.
- Candidate must adhere to all local, state, federal, and school code requirements for employment.
Qualifications
- Paraprofessionals: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Job Coaches: Bachelor’s degree in special education or related field preferred.
Benefits
- No benefits are offered.
Pay
$22.51 per hour plus a $250 retention bonus (requires attendance 18/19 days in program).
Schedule
Up to 4.5 hours per day, Monday - Thursday, with no school on July 2nd. The program runs Monday - Thursday for a total of 19 days.
Location
- Shamona Creek Elementary: K-5 Low Incidence and Bridges Program
- Marsh Creek Sixth Grade Center: K-12 Learning Support, Emotional Support and 6th Grade Low Incidence
- Downingtown High School West: 7-12+ Low Incidence
Student Hours by Location
- Shamona Creek Elementary: 9:00 AM - 12:30 PM
- Marsh Creek Sixth Grade Center: 9:00 AM - 12:30 PM
- Downingtown High School West: 7:30 AM - 11:30 AM
Paraprofessional Hours
Paraprofessional hours begin 15 minutes prior to student hours and extend 15 minutes past student hours.
Qualifications for Secondary Aides
- If student requires transportation, must have and maintain a valid state vehicle operator's license and good driving record.
- Must meet DASD procedures for transporting students (including motor vehicle record check).
- Must successfully complete and maintain compliance with all federal and state background and criminal record check requirements.
