Contract Length: Winter Sport
Salary: $2,500.00

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalency
• Must hold or have the ability to obtain an Athletic Coaching License (7-12) from the New Mexico Public Education Department (details)
• Must complete the Fundamentals of Coaching online exam offered through the New Mexico Activities Association (www.nmact.org)
• Previous successful coaching experience in the assigned sport
• Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of basketball
• Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program

Responsibilities

• Instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training
• Promote individual and team success while fostering character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment
• Stay updated on new theories and procedures pertinent to coaching through clinics, observations, and consultation
• Work with students to provide practice support and guidance for team success during the sports season
• Teach and enforce rules and regulations of the sport
• Advise, coordinate, and support assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and principal
• Serve as a positive role model for student athletes through instruction and actions

Schedule

• Evenings and weekends required
• On-site attendance is mandatory

About the Role

This position reports to the athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principals. The goal is to develop athletes both athletically and personally, ensuring a successful and positive experience in the sport.
