2026-2027 SY - Athletic Coach - 5th Grade Girls Basketball

About the Role

To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. The coach must instruct and demonstrate behaviors that lead to socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment in the student athletes. The role involves working with 5th grade girls basketball at David Skeet Elementary School during the winter sports season.

Responsibilities

• Organize and supervise a total sports program for 5th grade girls basketball.
• Teach and enforce rules and regulations of the sport.
• Instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training.
• Demonstrate behaviors that foster character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride in student athletes.
• Upgrade knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, and consultation.
• Provide practice support and advice to ensure team success against opposing teams.
• Advise, coordinate, and support assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and principal.
• Serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through instructions and actions.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalency.
• Must hold or have the ability to obtain an Athletic Coaching License (7-12) from the New Mexico Public Education Department.
• Completion of the Fundamentals of Coaching online exam offered through the New Mexico Activities Association.
• Previous successful coaching experience in the assigned sport.
• Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of basketball and a commitment to examining new theories and procedures pertinent to the field.

Work Environment

• On-site attendance is mandatory for this position.
• Work primarily involves evenings and weekends during the sports season.

Pay

$2,500.00 for the winter sports season.

Additional Notes

Internal applicants must attach a signed Permission to Coach Form to their application. Reports to the athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the school principals.
