About the role
To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. The coach must instruct and demonstrate behaviors that lead to socially acceptable character development, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment in the student athletes. The role involves working with 5th grade girls basketball, providing practice support, and coaching during a sports season.
Responsibilities
- Organize and supervise a total sports program for 5th grade girls basketball.
- Teach and enforce rules and regulations of the sport.
- Instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training.
- Demonstrate behaviors that foster character development, self-discipline, and self-confidence in student athletes.
- Upgrade knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, and consultation.
- Advise, coordinate, and support assistant coaches and middle school coaches as needed.
- Serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through instructions and actions.
- Examine new theories and procedures pertinent to coaching.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalency.
- Must hold or have the ability to obtain an Athletic Coaching License (7-12) from the New Mexico Public Education Department.
- Must complete the Fundamentals of Coaching online exam offered through the New Mexico Activities Association.
- Previous successful coaching experience in the assigned sport.
- Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of basketball.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends.
Qualifications
- Ability to organize and supervise a sports program.
- Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals, strategy, and training.
- Experience serving as a role model for student athletes.
Pay
$2,500.00 for the winter sport season.
Schedule
On-site attendance is mandatory. Work primarily takes place on evenings and weekends during the winter sport season.
Reports to: The athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the school principals.
