Zonal Underwriting Manager, Retail Property
About the role
The Zonal Underwriting Manager, Retail Property at AIG plays a crucial role in executing the geographic underwriting strategy, driving the long-term business strategy for the zone, and managing a team of underwriting staff. This role requires a broad base of insurance industry experience, preferably with at least 15+ years of insurance operational management experience.
Responsibilities
- Manages all branch underwriting within the zone and establishes, implements, and evaluates the production and profitability goals.
- Directly accountable for the business results of their Zone with respect to profitability, penetration and/or volume within a specific account, segment, geographic area, product or line of business.
- Partners with the Senior Manager to drive and execute the long-term business strategy for the zone, including all accounts for product accounts.
- Serves as a technical expert, exercising technical authority with regards to major or multiple insurance product line(s) within Retail Property.
- Oversees underwriting staff including managing and evaluating work; makes decisions regarding pay, performance management, development, employment, and staffing.
- Collaborates with the Senior Manager, Head of Retail Property and HR to implement tools and strategies to attract and retain top industry talent and develop high-performing teams.
- Identifies areas/positions within the zone that lack sufficient bench strength, and employees who require additional skills to fill those needs; develops and executes development/training/recruiting platforms/plans to address the deficiencies.
- Establishes strong relationships with all members of the zonal leadership teams; creates mutual understanding of overall parameters and goals to drive effective execution of the business model.
- Interacts with all levels of the insurance community.
- Drives a culture that promotes collaboration, diversity, and inclusion.
- Ensures the required standards of governance, systems and controls, and regulatory compliance are established and maintained.
Requirements
Broad based insurance industry experience, preferably with at least 15+ years of insurance operational management experience. Knowledge of market segmentation, portfolio management, acquisition and distribution. Process and system skills. Strategic orientation, managing vision and purpose, developing organizational capability. Strong influencing and communications skills and ability to work across multiple areas of company and industries. Change and team leadership, as well as, external thought leadership.
