Job Summary

This is a paid position. The Youth Theater Director will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our youth theater program, including directing productions, mentoring young actors, and fostering a creative and inclusive environment. The ideal candidate will have a passion for theater and youth development, along with strong leadership and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Direct youth theater productions from concept to performance.
  • Collaborate with designers and technical staff to create engaging and age-appropriate sets, costumes, and lighting.
  • Provide guidance and support to young actors, helping them develop their acting skills, confidence, and stage presence.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages creativity, teamwork, and personal growth.
  • Organize and conduct auditions for youth actors, ensuring a fair and supportive process.
  • Cast roles based on talent, suitability, and the overall dynamics of the production.
  • Plan and lead rehearsals, ensuring that all participants understand their roles and responsibilities.
  • Provide constructive feedback and coaching to enhance performance quality.
  • Build relationships with parents, schools, and community organizations to promote the youth theater program.
  • Assist in budgeting and resource allocation for productions and programs.
  • Maintain records of attendance, progress, and performance evaluations for participants.
  • Ensure a safe and supportive environment for all participants, adhering to child protection policies and procedures.
  • Address any conflicts or issues that arise among participants in a timely and constructive manner.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Theater, Education, or a related field (preferred).
  • Experience in directing theater productions, particularly with youth.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate young people.
  • Knowledge of theater production processes and techniques.
  • First Aid and CPR certification a plus!
