High School Theater Technical Director (Part-time, Flexible)
Key Responsibilities
- Oversight of set construction, painting, and scenic build for all productions
- Hang, focus, and run lighting; collaboration with the director on creative light plots
- Read basic design plans and transform the director's vision into reality on stage
- Management of supplies, tools, inventory, and the overall theater space, ensuring organization, safety, and readiness
- Flexible working hours during the building phase and commitment to required hours for dress rehearsals and all performance weekends (tech/dress weeks + Friday/Saturday shows, occasional evenings)
- Motivation and direct work with high school students (ages 14–18), collaboration with the director and the rest of the production team
Requirements
- Strong working knowledge of basic electrical, carpentry, fabrics and drapery, set painting, and scheduling
- Experience in technical theater (high school, community, or professional level welcome)
- Ability to read basic designs and contribute creative ideas to lighting and scenery
- Able to work independently, meet deadlines, and make creative use of resources
- A positive, encouraging presence that inspires and motivates students
- Flexibility with some nights and weekends during production periods
