About the role
The Youth Program Assistant provides leadership at program sites and ensures an environment that enhances and promotes interpersonal relationships, confidence, self-esteem, values, mutual respect, and understanding of various ethnic cultures and socio-economic backgrounds. Character development is the chief mission of the Greater Peoria YMCA, and the Youth Program Assistant should embody this commitment in all YMCA operations.
Responsibilities
- Create a variety of experiences that allow participants to exercise creativity and imagination.
- Assist in creating fun, therapeutic, educational, and skill-upgrading activities.
- Carry out lesson plans entirely.
- Keep a friendly attitude towards children and fellow staff.
- Maintain control of the group at all times.
- Enforce and share program rules and regulations with the group daily.
- Ensure facilities are left cleaner than they were upon arrival.
- Show respect for all equipment and return it to its proper location.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Attend staff meetings as scheduled.
- Obtain and maintain current CPR for child and infant and First Aid Certificate.
- Work School's Out days as assigned.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or be in the process of acquiring one.
- The ability to relate to all child participants, parents, and school age staff.
- Strong language skills, both written and oral.
- Adept at public speaking.
- Ability to interpret and convey daily billing procedures to staff and parents.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions and solve problems.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Ability to reason with others, handle their hostility, and develop solutions to problems.
Qualifications
- Current CPR and First Aid within 90 days.

USD $16.00 - USD $23.40 /Hr.
Schedule
Hours vary based on the needs of the program sites.
