About the role
The Youth Program Assistant provides leadership at program sites and ensures an environment that enhances and promotes interpersonal relationships, confidence, self-esteem, values, mutual respect, and understanding of various ethnic cultures and socio-economic backgrounds. The role is committed to character development, aligning with the Greater Peoria YMCA's mission.
Responsibilities
- Create a variety of experiences for participants to exercise creativity and upgrade skill levels.
- Assist in carrying out lesson plans and teaching activities.
- Maintain a friendly attitude and control group dynamics.
- Enforce and share program rules and regulations with participants.
- Report serious problems and accidents to appropriate parties.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Attend staff meetings and complete required training (CPR, First Aid).
Requirements
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- High school diploma or equivalent, or be in the process of acquiring one.
- Ability to relate to all child participants, parents, and school age staff.
- Strong language skills, both written and oral.
- Adept at public speaking.
- Ability to interpret and convey daily billing procedures.
- Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations.
- Ability to reason with others, handle hostility, and develop solutions to problems.
Qualifications
- Current CPR and First Aid within 90 days.
