Schools of Hope Academic Tutoring
- Recruit, screen, and place volunteer and work-study tutors.
- Aid in the planning and implementation of tutor training events.
- Ensure all tutors receive proper orientation and training.
- Match tutors with students based on academic strengths and needs.
- Provide direct academic tutoring to a caseload of students.
- Maintain a program database and complete required reports.
- Support tutors and monitor tutor-tutee matches.
- Host monthly or bi-monthly support meetings with tutors.
- Publicize tutoring services and meet with school staff.
- Create and maintain systems for sharing information with school staff.
After School
- Host or co-host homework clubs at least 2 days per week.
- Implement additional after school youth development programming.
- Recruit students for after school opportunities.
- Complete necessary documentation for reporting.
- Plan, support, and lead groups of youth in various ULGM events.
Youth Leadership Development
- Organize and facilitate conversations with community leaders.
- Plan and implement at least one student-led service learning project per semester.
Communication with Families
- Manage all communications with student families.
- Contribute to school newsletters and direct mailings.
- Coordinate communication for annual MLK awards nominations.
- Disseminate information about other ULGM programs.
Qualifications
- Strong commitment to the Urban League’s mission and working with diverse youth and families.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Experience or background in education, youth development, or related fields.
- Completed MMSD background check.
- Experience developing high-quality out-of-school time learning opportunities.
- Understanding of 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade student needs.
- Goal-oriented, problem-solving, and solution-driven approach.
- Strong time management and teamwork skills.
- Ability to forge partnerships with various organizations.
- Excellent written, presentation, and public speaking skills.
- Computer proficiency including Microsoft Word, Excel, and internet navigation.
- Knowledge of educational support services for middle school students in Madison public schools.
- Experience serving as a liaison between school staff and community programs.
Pay and Schedule
Full Time Equivalent: 1.0
Work Hours: 9:00-5:30 p.m. Mondays – Fridays plus occasional evenings and weekends (approximately 2 evenings or weekends per month).
Site Assignment: Toki Middle School
