About the Role

The Lead Wound Care Nurse provides expert clinical support, supervises the wound care team, and educates staff on managing wounds, pressure ulcers, ostomies, fistulas, and incontinence. This role develops and maintains practice standards, ensures policy adherence, and leads initiatives to prevent hospital-acquired pressure injuries. Responsibilities include delivering direct patient care for evaluation and education, coordinating wound care programs, and developing evidence-based protocols. The position involves collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, program development, documentation oversight, and participation in Quality Improvement projects.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead wound care staff and activities
  • Develop cost-effective wound/ostomy care programs and standards
  • Monitor patient outcomes and develop treatment plans
  • Educate staff and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
  • Advise physicians and coordinate patient follow-up and referrals
  • Ensure documentation accuracy and compliance
  • Lead hospital-wide initiatives and participate in quality improvement
  • Maintain professional development
  • Serve as a resource and support for nursing staff and wound care team

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing or completion within 2 years if hired without one
  • Minimum two years of wound care experience and one year of acute care nursing
  • Certification as Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse (CWOCN) or Certified Wound Care Nurse (CWCN) within 2 years
  • Current RN license in California and BLS certification
