About the Role
The Women’s and Children’s Quality Navigator/Educator works collaboratively to coordinate the care for patients, adult, and newborn seen within the Maternal/Child department. This role enhances the performance and professional development of healthcare providers and their continuing competencies.
Key responsibilities include developing and coordinating educational programs and materials specific for nursing and patient care service areas, communicating routinely with Singing River Health System departments to ensure follow-up screening, and collecting, analyzing, and prioritizing comprehensive patient health data in conjunction with state and federally mandated programs such as AIM, MOMS, and Baby Friendly.
The Quality Navigator/Educator drives the plan of care and patient care progression, facilitates clinical excellence through orientation, training, and ongoing staff development, and participates in the development of formal and informal education programs to improve quality standards and outcomes. This role also serves as a resource and educator on new policies, procedures, equipment, and healthcare information, and keeps abreast of current research in nursing practice to facilitate Evidence-Based Practice initiatives.
Availability may be adjusted as needed (evenings/nights/weekends) to meet the educational needs of the staff.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate care for patients, adults, and newborns within the Maternal/Child department.
- Develop and coordinate educational programs and materials for nursing and patient care service areas.
- Communicate routinely with SRHS departments to ensure completion of hearing screens and follow-up labs.
- Collect, analyze, and prioritize comprehensive patient health data pertinent to the patient’s health and/or condition in conjunction with state and federally mandated programs (e.g., AIM, MOMS, Baby Friendly).
- Drive the plan of care and patient care progression specific to patient needs.
- Facilitate the development of clinical excellence through active participation in orientation, training, ongoing staff development, and evaluation of clinical practice.
- Participate in the development of formal and informal education programs to improve quality standards, outcomes, and staff performance expectations.
- Serve as a resource and educator on new policies, procedures, equipment, and healthcare information.
- Keep abreast of current research in nursing practice and facilitate the implementation of Evidence-Based Practice initiatives.
- Adjust working hours and availability as needed to meet the educational needs of the staff (evenings/nights/weekends).
Requirements
- Graduate from an NLN School of Nursing; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
- Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Mississippi.
- BCLS certification required upon hire and/or transfer.
- NRP certification must be completed by the end of position orientation (90 days).
- De-escalation training must be completed by the end of position orientation (90 days).
- Five (5) years’ clinical nursing experience appropriate for the area of specialty.
- Previous teaching experience or evidence of teaching ability preferred.
- Experience in maternal/child patient navigation preferred.

Schedule
Dayshift / 8 hours. Must be able to work assigned schedules with the understanding that changes may be instituted according to the needs of the hospital for off days, shifts, or weekends.
Location
Singing River Ocean Springs Hospital.
Physical Demands
- Moderately active work involving sitting, moving about the office and facility, and traveling within the SRHS service area.

- Using many physical motions in daily work activities; exposure to body fluids, sputum, and tissues, which may carry the hazard of infectious disease.
- Using repetitive motions: substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers while operating standard office equipment.
- Ability to perceive sound at normal speaking levels with or without correction; fine discriminations in sound.
- Close visual acuity and the ability to adjust focus, e.g., shift gaze from a computer monitor to printed material.
