Position Overview
This student position is based at the KU Edwards Campus in the Kansas City metropolitan area. Student staff members of the Welcome and Success Center play a key role in supporting both the Welcome and Success Center and the Transfer Recruitment team. As front-line representatives, these individuals serve as the first point of contact for students, providing direct assistance and connecting them with the appropriate campus resources and departments.
Job Description
40%- Campus Support
- Serve as the first point of contact by greeting visitors, students, and campus guests.
- Provide assistance to prospective and current students, faculty, staff, and community members in locating campus resources and services.
- Answer incoming calls to the Welcome and Success Center and route inquiries appropriately.
- Distribute KU ID cards and diplomas to students.
- Check students in for scheduled appointments with Student Services staff.
- Engage in ongoing learning about campus resources, student support services, and university policies to better assist students.
- Support students with appointment scheduling for advising and other student services.
- Participate in student outreach efforts, including application follow-up and calling campaigns.
30%- Event Collaboration & Graphic Design
- Utilize downtime at the Welcome Center to support event planning and design projects for the Edwards Campus.
- Collaborate with Student Services to brainstorm and share event ideas tailored to the Edwards Campus student population.
- Create promotional materials such as flyers for campus events.
- Create engaging social media content, including photo posts and reels for the Student Services Instagram account.
- Update digital signage and manage flyer distribution and removal across campus.
- Aid in the preparation and logistics for major student events such as Hawk Week, Hawk Talks, and Commencement.
- Contribute to the monthly student newsletter, "What’s the Tea?", through content creation and design.
25%- Transfer Ambassador
- Represent the Edwards Campus at recruitment and tabling events at local community colleges.
- Lead campus tours for prospective students and their families.
- Assist in the coordination and facilitation of recruitment events.
- Share personal KU Edwards experiences to showcase campus life and available opportunities to prospective students.
5%- Other Responsibilities
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Associate and Assistant Deans, direct supervisor, or staff in the School of Professional Studies.
Required Qualifications
- Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
- Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), as demonstrated in application materials.
- Experience providing high-quality customer service, as indicated in application materials.
Preferred Qualifications
- Federal Work Study preferred.
- Student at the KU Edwards Campus.
Position Requirements
- During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours.
- For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester.
- Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
Employment Conditions
- Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
- This is an hourly/non-exempt position.
- A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
