Water/Wastewater Plant Operator Technician, Apprentice or Operator I, II, III, IV

About the role

Performs technician work in the operation of a water/wastewater plant and distribution system. Also performs specialized work in the operation of a water/wastewater plant and distribution system as a licensed operator.

Responsibilities

• Checks all wells and lift stations on a daily basis.
• Assists with collecting samples at wells and wastewater treatment plant.
• Assists in maintenance of all chemical feed systems.
• Performs routine tests required for efficient operation of both water and wastewater treatment plant.
• Performs routine maintenance and minor construction as assigned.
• Reports any discrepancies found to lead operator.
• Attends training sessions in the safe operation of water/wastewater plants.
• Interacts with the public in an effective and courteous manner.

• May have a role in the County’s disaster preparation and/or disaster recovery efforts, as designated in the County Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan; may be required to work before, during and/or after an emergency.

Qualifications

• For TECHNICIAN: A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
• For APPRENTICE: A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent; supplemented by One (1) year of experience performing utility maintenance work; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
• For OPERATOR I, II, III, IV: A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Skills

• Knowledge of general mechanical repair and maintenance;
• Operating procedures applicable to treatment, functions and mechanics of pumps and other plant mechanical equipment.
