WATER/SEWER UTILITY WORKER

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Install, maintain, repair, and replace water meters, water and/or sewer lines and related appurtenances
• Locates manholes, service connections, valves and other utilities
• Assist with the installation/repair of new sewer taps and/or water service lines
• Clear debris from manholes, water and sewer lines, sewer stream crossings, easements, valve boxes, etc.
• Inspect and evaluate condition of systems; diagnoses leaks, blockages or other problems
• Excavate around water and sewer infrastructure; Install appropriate repair fittings
• Perform confined space entries into permit required confined spaces as needed
• Gather tools and equipment needed to complete work activities; picks up and transports materials, tools and supplies
• Perform related activities: saw cuts driveways, sidewalks, curbs, and roads during repair
• Assist with the preparation and restoration of landscape, property, and other areas to preconstruction conditions that are disrupted as a result of repair work
• Adhere to established safety procedures: monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees, other individuals, equipment, and property
• Flag and directs traffic and places markers, signs and cones around project or work site to ensure safety of crew and the traveling public
• Wears personal protective equipment

REQUIRED SKILLS

• Detail oriented and can follow safety procedures closely and maintain accurate records of the work performed
• Possess the aptitude to work with others and take instruction
• Demonstrate the skills needed to troubleshoot, quickly diagnose a situation, and choose the appropriate action needed to mitigate the situation
• The ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, odors, sounds, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals
• The ability to communicate orally

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma/General Equivalency Diploma(GED)
• 1 year of related work experience
