About the role
The Utility Worker - Water (Hourly) position at the Water Production Division of the City of Fort Collins is responsible for assisting in a variety of clerical, analytical, and treatment process tasks under the direction and supervision of qualified personnel at the Water Treatment Facility.
Responsibilities
- Conducts basic mechanical and electrical maintenance under the direction and supervision of qualified personnel.
- Handles chemicals such as chlorine, fluoride, corrosives, and asphyxiants.
- Fills out work orders and enters service requests.
- Understands and follows City safety regulations.
- Sets up and/or builds equipment as needed.
- Conducts chemical inventories and updates online SDS database.
- Affords assistance in updating and maintaining various emergency response and safety plans.
- Assists in process optimization analysis and studies.
- Collects field process and equipment data.
- May assist in the design and implementation of new systems and processes.
- Scans documents and maintains an indexing system.
- Assists in querying data and assembling reports.
- Drives pickups and cars.
- Cleans plant process areas and equipment.
- Keeps assigned work sites free from trash and debris.
- Keeps trucks and assigned equipment neat, clean, and stocked.
- Attends safety meetings and other training as directed.
- Uses/wears required personal protective equipment and follows safety procedures.
- May be exposed to heat, cold, and wet weather.
Requirements
- High School graduation or GED certificate (relevant higher education or certification preferred).
- Valid driver’s license.
- Physical strength to perform moderate lifting/carrying 50 lbs. for up to 100 feet.
- Physical ability to perform bending, twisting, stretching, rotating, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and lifting operations while in awkward positions.
- Able to operate a motor vehicle.
- Able to climb stairs and walk on uneven terrain.

- General knowledge of chemistry and familiarity with basic chemical analysis (pH measurement, titrations) is preferred but not required.
- General knowledge of safety hazards related to the job and equipment.
- Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.

Benefits
While the City of Fort Collins offers many remote and/or hybrid positions, all remote or hybrid work must be performed in the state of Colorado. The City provides safety-toed boots (Utility pays for one pair per season up to $280.00) and other safety gear, and hand tools are furnished by the Utility.
Pay
The hourly rate for this position ranges from $19.00 to $24.00 per hour, based on relevant experience.
