Water Utility Worker
About the role
The City of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, seeks a Water Utility Worker to join the Department of Public Works Water Utility Division. This position is under general supervision to perform all duties necessary for the installation and maintenance of water distribution facilities.
Responsibilities
- Excavation and repair of water mains, services, valves and hydrants
- Full restoration of disturbed areas of concrete, asphalt, and landscaping
- Setup and removal of temporary traffic control devices as needed
- Complete annual maintenance on hydrants and valves
- Frequently available for emergency response during off-shift hours
- Participate in the on-call rotation
Requirements
- General knowledge of underground utility construction and maintenance, associated equipment
- Dump truck operation
- Understanding of proper roadway and pavement repair
- Construction zone safety practices and procedures
- Possession of a valid Wisconsin Commercial “Class A” Driver’s License without air brake restrictions and with tanker endorsement within 90 days of hire (in-house training available)
Qualifications and/or Knowledge and Willingness to Learn
- No experience required, will train the right candidate
- General knowledge of underground utility construction and maintenance, associated equipment
- Dump truck operation

- Possession of a valid Wisconsin Commercial “Class A” Driver’s License without air brake restrictions and with tanker endorsement within 90 days of hire (in-house training available)
Desirable Training and Experience
- Performing semi-skilled manual work on construction and maintenance of underground utilities
- Competent persons training and familiarity with calling in locates to diggers hotline
- Graduation from high school or equivalent

Salary Range
We offer a competitive compensation package $23.88 – $27.93/hour based upon knowledge, skills, and abilities with potential to receive additional step increases based on meeting and/or exceeding goals/expectations; annual COLA and step increases pending City Council approval of budgets; and future promotional opportunities in alignment with succession and career path.
