About the role

The Regional Wastewater Reclamation (RWRD) department at Pima County is seeking a Wastewater Technical Trainer to support the training and development of utility maintenance workers and other conveyance personnel. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in wastewater theory and facility operations, and will be responsible for delivering training that aligns with regulatory and departmental requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies and prioritizes training needs based on regulatory and departmental requirements.
  • Collaborates with internal teams and subject matter experts to ensure alignment with department goals and objectives.
  • Develops, delivers, and updates technical training curricula, materials, and evaluations, focusing on the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment and conveyance systems.
  • Provides technical and practical training for obtaining licensing certifications, credentials, or endorsements required by Department employees.
  • Uses various digital tools and platforms to research and develop training materials for different settings, and utilizes relevant computer software programs and applications for training documentation, file and database management, and report preparation.
  • Evaluates external materials and texts for use, and coordinates the provision of training by other external sources.
  • Uses principles and practices of employee supervision, training, and evaluation.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience as a teacher/instructor in STEM disciplines or as an instructor/trainer in related industrial job training.
  • Two years of experience in the operation or maintenance of an advanced, complex wastewater/water facility or related industry/facility, including one year of experience performing lead, supervisory, and/or training duties.
  • One year of experience with Pima County in an Operations & Maintenance Technician II, Utility Maintenance Worker III, Industrial Wastewater Inspector, Wastewater Maintenance Specialist II, Conveyance Systems Monitoring II, or closely related position.

Qualifications

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Teams) or other educational/training development software.
  • Minimum one year experience developing curriculum and associated training materials.
  • Minimum one year experience presenting training materials.
  • Minimum one year experience working in an industrial or construction environment.
  • Minimum one year experience working with industrial or construction-related safety rules, procedures, and/or regulations (e.g., OSHA, NIOSH).

Skills

Sound knowledge and understanding of the subject matter taught, along with a strong aptitude for public speaking, are essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant computer software is required.
