About the role

The Warehouse Refrigeration Manager is responsible for maintaining the refrigeration system to meet all required guidelines for safe and efficient operation, ensuring the safety and integrity of all refrigerated products. This role involves observing policies and procedures to ensure efficient refrigeration and warehousing practices, managing or supervising others, training and developing direct reports in maintaining an ammonia refrigeration system, partnering with the Maintenance department team members to support all facilities maintenance, assisting and being knowledgeable in any maintenance needs within the facility, building, grounds, facilities, material handling equipment, MHE equipment, driving cost reduction and energy efficiency, monitoring load demands and adjusting boilers, compressors, and pumps to maintain required steam, air, and water output, monitoring and adjusting chemical feed systems for water treatment to ensure proper levels, understanding and maintaining valves and equipment controls to regulate steam, water, and fuel flow, refrigeration, inspecting boiler safety devices, chillers, observing meters/gauges to ensure proper operation, reporting and documenting abnormal conditions or major repairs needed to the system, supervising and assisting in corrective action, performing repairs on the system as needed, maintaining boiler/chiller/compressor room cleanliness and safety standards, driving good practices and standards to strive towards excellence, being familiar with root cause failure analysis in order to prevent failures, extend the life of equipment and save cost, assisting in annual inspections and preparation, demonstrating safe work practices and adherence to organizational safety programs, documenting and using software to track work, time, parts, compliance preventive, predictive maintenance for reliability of the system, assisting and maintaining all guidelines associated with Process Safety management procedures, documenting all records and using the ePSM system to meet compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the refrigeration system to meet all required guidelines for safe and efficient operation
  • Observe policies and procedures to ensure efficient refrigeration and warehousing practices
  • Manage or supervise others, train and develop direct reports in maintaining an ammonia refrigeration system
  • Partner with the Maintenance department team members to support all facilities maintenance
  • Assist and be knowledgeable in any maintenance needs within the facility, building, grounds, facilities, material handling equipment, MHE equipment
  • Drive cost reduction and work to be as energy efficient as possible
  • Monitor load demands and adjust boilers, compressors, and pumps to maintain required steam, air, and water output
  • Monitor and adjust chemical feed systems for water treatment to ensure proper levels
  • Understand and maintain valves and equipment controls to regulate steam, water, and fuel flow, refrigeration
  • Inspect boiler safety devices, chillers, observe meters/gauges to ensure proper operation
  • Report and document abnormal conditions or major repairs needed to the system
  • Supervise and assist in corrective action, perform repairs on the system as needed
  • Maintain boiler/chiller/compressor room cleanliness and safety standards
  • Drive good practices and standards to strive towards excellence
  • Be familiar with root cause failure analysis in order to prevent failures, extend the life of equipment and save cost
  • Assist in annual inspections and preparation
  • Document all records and use the ePSM system to meet compliance requirements

Requirements

  • Operator 1 Ammonia Certification (minimum requirement)
  • Work towards certification for Operator 2 Ammonia Certification
  • RETA Certification
  • Hazwoper certification
  • Must be certified to work on and do repair service to the ammonia system
  • 2-5 years of real work experience as a refrigeration technician/operator
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid certifications for position, valid driver’s license
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency in reading schematics and using software to track equipment, work, time, inspections and expense
  • Experience in process safety management and using software to track all Ammonia system records
  • Must have Ammonia refrigeration experience, knowledge of engine & boiler systems, electricity & motor controls, pneumatics & hydraulics, mechanical systems experience with predictive/preventive maintenance, site utilities, and system troubleshooting
  • Skills in pipefitting, welding, machining, or metal fabrication, electrical and controls

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid certifications for position, valid driver’s license
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency in reading schematics and using software to track equipment, work, time, inspections and expense
  • Experience in process safety management and using software to track all Ammonia system records
  • Must have Ammonia refrigeration experience, knowledge of engine & boiler systems, electricity & motor controls, pneumatics & hydraulics, mechanical systems experience with predictive/preventive maintenance, site utilities, and system troubleshooting
  • Skills in pipefitting, welding, machining, or metal fabrication, electrical and controls

Skills

  • Ability to train others in all repairs and processes
  • Perform repairs (meters, valves, gaskets, joints) as needed
  • Maintain boiler/chiller/compressor room cleanliness and safety standards
  • Drive good practices and standards to strive towards excellence
  • Able and willing to do any other task for facilities, maintenance, building and grounds for BEK
