About the Role

The Volunteer Services Coordinator fills the volunteer needs of the staff and residents by recruiting volunteers from association churches and the broader community. This role involves conducting volunteer screening (including background checks), interviewing, new volunteer orientation and training, providing volunteer recognition, and maintaining informative reports to enhance the quality of life for residents at Oakwood Village. This position reports to the campus Executive Director.

Responsibilities

  • Works with staff and residents in identifying the current and future volunteer needs for Oakwood Village, assuring quality services to the residents through the use of volunteers.
  • Proactively recruits from the associated churches, broader community, and residents. This includes effective interviewing, thorough screening, and thorough orientation to ensure proper placement based on the volunteer’s abilities to meet resident/departmental needs, including making sure the volunteer understands how their service fits into the overall mission of Oakwood Village.
  • Demonstrates a deep understanding of daily campus-wide volunteer assignments.
  • Provides supervision (as needed), support, and education to all volunteers working in designated volunteer services.
  • Develops and updates volunteer assignment descriptions to reflect the current needs of residents and staff departments.
  • Is present and volunteers during special large-group programs.
  • Regularly communicates with staff regarding volunteer department policies and procedures.
  • Plans and executes recognition of volunteers, including recognition events, written acknowledgment, and community public relations.
  • Acts as liaison to service and other volunteer groups established through churches and the community as appropriate.
  • Maintains confidential information, including company information, financial reports, and volunteer personnel records.
  • Oversees the volunteer-operated campus stores, including inventory management, training of volunteers, providing volunteer schedules, maintaining the point-of-sale system in good working condition, and problem-solving as needed.
  • Develops policies and processes in partnership with leadership to ensure compliance with all departments and facility guidelines.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred. Three to five years of experience in volunteer management preferred.
