Visitor Services Program Coordinator
About the role
The Shaver's Creek Environmental Center within Penn State Outreach seeks a Visitor Services Program Coordinator to enhance the educational mission of Shaver’s Creek for visitors.
Responsibilities
- Independently coordinate, develop, and maintain the Weidemann Bookstore and Lobby as a welcoming space for 20,000 yearly visitors.
- Facilitate a positive, educational program experience for visitors.
- Manage bookstore operations by developing the yearly budget, making sales, updating inventory, managing the online store, placing orders, maintaining vendor relationships, training interns and staff, coordinating local art consignment, and completing weekly reconciliations.
- Collaborate with the Program Registration Coordinator and other colleagues to manage the Shaver’s Creek membership program and assist with seasonal registration spikes, including Summer Camp.
- Help with intern hiring, facilitate internal communications, and assist with program marketing through website updates, community calendars, and email lists.
Requirements
- General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or High School (HS) 2+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.
- Required Certifications: None.
Preferred Qualifications
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Past retail experience.
- Comfortable answering phones and enjoying interacting with the public.
- Experience with natural history interpretation is a plus.
- Proficient with database management, e-mail, and word processing.
- A strong environmental ethic consistent with Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center’s mission.

- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.

Pay
The salary range for this position is $40,608.00 - $58,836.00.
Schedule
The typical work week for this position is Thursday through Monday to support vibrant weekend visitation and programming.
Background Checks/Clearances
This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.
