Position Description

Detect evidence of tampering of VIN plates, labels and other identifying markers including odometer fraud.
Examine and confirm the identity of vehicles previously titled outside of Kansas when applicant desires to obtain Kansas title/registration.
This position is a customer service position that works closely with other employees and the public. Regular, reliable, dependable, performance is an essential function.
Conduct inspections and other activities related to the Motor Vehicle Enforcement program in accordance with the law and KHP policies.
Inspect vehicles presented on court orders, possessory lien affidavit sales, salvage/rebuilt salvage titles, assembled vehicles, kit vehicles, homemade trailers, cab changes, and vehicles previously titled in a foreign state or country when applicant desires to obtain Kansas title/registration.
Apply replacement Vehicle Identification Numbers (VIN) and KS assigned numbers.
Completes Motor Vehicle Enforcement forms, correspondence and other related forms/reports in a timely manner.
Checks incoming and outgoing reports for accuracy.
Checks titles and other Vehicle Identification Number related documents for accuracy, authenticity, and evidence of alterations.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Licensing & Certification: Valid Driver’s License.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, customers, and general public; communicate effectively with internal and external customers both orally and in writing. Able to perform basic mathematical calculations.

  • Must submit to and pass a thorough background check including fingerprints.
  • Able to sit, walk, stand, stretch, twist, reach out with body, arms and legs; listen, comprehend, respond, speak clearly and concisely in writing, in person, and on the telephone; repeatedly bend, stoop, lift materials/equipment up to 30 lbs., move in confined areas, and perform repetitive motions with one or more extremity.
  • Must have the ability to see details up close and at a distance.
