About the role
The VP, Portfolio Management is responsible for financial analysis, preparing underwriting documents, and managing credit exposure for corporate clients. They also oversee ongoing credit monitoring and risk assessment, review legal documentation, and assist in cross-selling additional bank products.
Responsibilities
- Gather and analyze financial data for clients, including spreadsheets and collaborating with third-party vendors.
- Analyze historical performance, calculate credit metrics, identify risks, and assess creditworthiness.
- Model future financial performance and prepare thorough credit underwriting documents.
- Manage the approval process for lending commitments, amendments, waivers, and consents.
- Review and maintain legal documentation, ensuring compliance with regulations and certifications.
- Monitor client accounts, track covenant compliance, and assess financial trends.
- Identify problem accounts and work with the Asset Recovery Group to improve the bank's position.
- Establish and maintain direct client relationships, attend presentations, and identify new opportunities.
- Contribute to white papers on industry segments and provide guidance to junior staff.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience in finance, accounting, economics, or business (required).
- MBA (preferred).
- Minimum 5 years of commercial underwriting, credit, banking, or financial services experience (required).
- Commercial and Industrial (C&I) underwriting experience strongly preferred.
- Competent with Microsoft Office and proficient in learning and utilizing other technology applications.
- Demonstrated competence in financial analysis and modeling.
- Ability to gather and analyze large amounts of information to assess corporate creditworthiness.
- Experience structuring financial covenants for syndicated debt facilities.
- Experience managing the left lead/administrative agent role in syndicated deals.
- Strong negotiation and communication skills, able to lead discussions and act as a primary lending representative.
- Knowledge of business and legal elements of credit agreements and ability to work with counsel.
- Solid understanding of banking and investment banking products and current market dynamics.
- Effective presentation and communication skills, with the ability to influence and challenge.
- Ability to plan, multi-task, manage time effectively, and lead work independently.
