About the role
A BluePearl Surgery Technician is responsible for some post-operative client communication and must be able to work independently while contributing to a larger team goal. They prefer to have a minimum of two or more years of experience in a veterinary hospital and are required to have a rotating on-call schedule once training has been completed.
Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
- Utilize their ability to place peripheral intravenous catheter in cephalic vein.
- Perform physical exams; accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
- Understand normal vital parameters and alert the doctor when abnormal.
- Able to set up and administer intravenous fluids.
- Able to administer subcutaneous fluids.
- Operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and troubleshoot errors.
- Able to disconnect and connect patient from intravenous fluids aseptically.
- Able to monitor patient response to fluid therapy including signs of overload.
Requirements
A rotating on-call schedule is required once training has been completed.
Qualifications
- Minimum of two or more years of experience in a veterinary hospital.
- Ability to work independently and contribute to a team goal.
- Experience with placing peripheral intravenous catheters.
- Knowledge of performing physical exams and understanding normal vital parameters.
- Experience with setting up and administering intravenous fluids.
- Experience operating various intravenous fluid pumps and troubleshooting errors.
- Experience disconnecting and connecting patients to intravenous fluids aseptically.
- Experience monitoring patient response to fluid therapy including signs of overload.
