About the role

The Small Animal Internal Medicine Service at UW Veterinary Care (UWVC) is growing and seeks passionate Veterinary Technicians to join our team.

Responsibilities

  • Provides skilled technical support for the Small Animal Internal Medicine Service.
  • Occasionally assists in the Critical Care Unit (CCU) and Intermediate Care Ward (ICW).
  • Works alongside board-certified specialists, residents, interns, and veterinary students.
  • Builds clinical expertise while caring for a wide variety of complex and rewarding cases.
  • Strengthens nursing skills, collaborates with multiple specialty services, and makes a meaningful impact on the lives of patients and their owners.

Requirements

  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds independently.
  • Physical and manual dexterity to perform specialized technical tasks.
  • Proven proficiency with IV catheter placements.
  • Proven proficiency with sedation administration and monitoring.
  • Proven knowledge of basic nursing skills.
  • Experience with client communication.

Qualifications

  • To qualify for Level 1: Entry level, new CVT grad or some CVT working experience with no specialization.
  • To qualify for Level 2: Generally over 2 years of veterinary tech experience, may substitute years of experience for specialization.
  • To qualify for Level 3: Veterinary Tech Specialist (VTS), or highly qualified and specialized in a specific area, may have prior experience from another university hospital.

Skills

  • Professional experience working in a teaching hospital.

Pay

The starting hourly rate for the position is $20.00 (but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications).

Schedule

This is a 100% FTE (40 hours a week) position. The anticipated schedule for this vacancy is Monday through Friday from 8:30am - 5:00pm, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch.
