About the role
BluePearl Pet Hospital in Tacoma, WA is hiring for a Veterinary Receptionist. In this position, you are the first BluePearl Associate that the client sees. You will ensure that each client receives the care and attention that they need. You will need to be able to function calmly and compassionately in situations that can be very emotional and difficult for our clients.
Responsibilities
- Greet and make friendly eye contact every time our hospital entry door opens to offer the individual warm and professional acknowledgement.
- Always offer a friendly smile, strong eye contact and an approachable demeanor.
- Be a compassionate listener.
- Speak clearly, slowly, and calmly in person and on the telephone in a way that clients easily understand.
- Assess immediately upon arrival each client's rare need, as well as the pet's general condition.
- Determine whether an emergency arrival is a "stat" versus "standard" emergency.
- Respond to non-patient calls or visitors and connect them to the appropriate team member.
- Confirm all appointments in advance ensuring clients receive accurate information about preparing their pet for the appointment.
- Offer emotional support and resource materials to grieving clients in a compassionate and discreet manner.
- Serve as a liaison between clients and service agencies during handling of pet remains by ensuring a complete, accurate, and compassionate process.
Qualifications & skills
- Excellent customer service professional with the ability to offer guidance, comfort, and support.
- Ability to function calmly and compassionately in emotional and difficult situations.
- Strong interpersonal skills including friendly demeanor, eye contact, and clear communication.
- Ability to assess client needs and pet condition upon arrival.
- Organizational skills for appointment confirmation and accurate information delivery.
Pay
$21 - 30 / hour, dependent on experience and determined through the Kahuna leveling system.
Schedule
Sunday-Wednesday 10am-8pm. Please note: our hospitals are 24/7 and we may require some flexibility with scheduling; notice ahead of time will be provided if this is the case.
