About the role
At Oakwood Animal Hospital, we offer a unique externship experience for veterinary students. This opportunity allows students to gain hands-on clinical experience under the supervision of a veterinarian, working on tasks such as gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, assisting or performing surgical procedures, and managing medical cases.
Responsibilities
- Gather patient histories
- Perform physical exams
- Create treatment plans
- Conduct diagnostics
- Provide dental services
- Assist or perform surgical procedures
- Manage medical cases
Requirements
- Currently enrolled veterinary students
- No prior experience required
Qualifications
- Strong academic performance
- Excellent communication skills
- Commitment to animal welfare
Skills
- Proficiency in veterinary medicine
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good observational and problem-solving skills

Compensation details will be provided during the hiring process and will vary based on location.
Schedule
Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks, depending on the schedules of both the student and the hospital.
