Veterinary Extern - General Practice
About the role
An externship experience at an NVA hospital will provide students with unique insights into the daily operations of veterinary practices. Each NVA hospital shares common elements such as a supportive, dedicated team committed to delivering high-quality care and exceptional service.
Responsibilities
- Gain hands-on clinical experience under the supervision of a veterinarian
- Collect patient histories and perform physical exams
- Create and implement treatment plans
- Perform diagnostics and dental services
- Assist or perform surgical procedures under supervision
- Manage medical cases independently
- Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients
Requirements
Veterinary students of all classes are welcome to participate. Those in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
Qualifications
NVA welcomes applications from veterinary students who demonstrate a commitment to animal welfare and a passion for veterinary medicine.
Skills
Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential. Basic knowledge of veterinary medicine is helpful but not required.
