Veterinary Extern - General Practice
Job Description
We are an AAHA-accredited small animal hospital, have an amazing team and work culture, and lots of opportunities to learn among our four doctors at our spacious hospital. Besides offering preventative and general care for our patients as well as surgery & internal medicine, we have DR radiology, in-house & reference labs with Idexx, recommend and perform CORE dentistry and oral surgery, have a surgical laser unit, therapy laser, and more.
About the Role
Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Requirements
Most externship experiences at Michigan Road Animal Hospital at 96th Street range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. Externships are offered to veterinary students in their final year of veterinary school.
