Veterinary Extern - General Practice
Job Description
An externship experience at Arroyo Vista Veterinary Hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience.
About the Role
This externship is designed for 3rd and 4th year veterinary students. Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in various aspects of veterinary practice, including:
- Gathering patient histories
- Performing physical exams
- Creating treatment plans
- Diagnostics
- Dentistry services
- Observing or assisting with surgical procedures
- Medical management of patients
Responsibilities
Students will have the opportunity to practice their clinical skills, including:
- Communicating with the medical team, support staff, and clients
Requirements
The externship experience typically ranges from two to eight weeks, depending on the schedules of both the student and the hospital.
Qualifications
Eligible veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. The stipend amount for Arroyo Vista Veterinary Hospital is $1,000.
