Veterinary Extern - General Practice
About the role
An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice, and to gain valuable hands-on clinical experience.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with the supervising Associate Veterinarians
- Gather patient histories
- Perform physical exams
- Create treatment plans
- Diagnose and perform diagnostics
- Provide dental services
- Assist or perform surgical procedures
- Manage medical care for patients
- Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients
Requirements
Veterinary students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate in NVA externships. Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.

Pay
Travel/living expense stipends are available for veterinary students participating in NVA externships.
Schedule
Externship experiences at Town and Country Animal Clinic range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules.
