Veterinary Extern - General Practice

About the role

An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice, and to gain valuable hands-on clinical experience.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients.
• Practice clinical skills including but not limited to gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients.
• Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Requirements

Students must be enrolled in a veterinary school and in the clinical portion of their education.

Qualifications

Preference given to students who are actively seeking a position within the veterinary field.

Pay

Travel/living expense stipend available for veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education.

Schedule

Externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules.
