About the role
BluePearl Pet Hospital in Brooklyn, NYC is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant to join our Emergency team!
Schedule
- Daytime: Thurs-Sat + every other Wed, 7am-7pm
Pay
- $22.50 - $32.80 / hour + competitive shift differentials
The pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool.
Benefits

- Shift Differentials Are Based On a 4-hour Minimum.
- For Example:
- Mon – Fri: 6pm to 8am = +$4.50/hr.
- Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = +$4.50/hr.
- Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = +$8.00/hr.
Responsibilities
- Triage emergency cases as they come in and assist DVM with crafting and going over estimates as needed.
- Perform diagnostics (radiographs, labwork, etc).
- Set up and discharge patients.
- Handle client communication.
- Engage with clients by performing triages, going over estimates, and providing discharge instruction.
- Stock, clean, and maintain cleanliness in the ER, ICU, and other designated areas.
- Understand and monitor therapeutic response to commonly used medications.
- Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration under the guidance of an LVT.
- Perform radiography and lab work.
- Perform physical exams; accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
- Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
Qualifications
- Knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant
- Experience in triaging emergency cases and assisting DVMs
- Ability to perform diagnostics and handle client communication
- Proficiency in administering medications and performing physical exams
- Understanding of R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines
