About the role
BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Part-time Veterinary Assistant to join their fast-paced emergency department. Our Veterinary Assistants triage emergency cases as they come in and assist DVMs with crafting and going over estimates as needed. They also perform diagnostics, set up patients in ICU or Inpatient wards, discharge patients, and handle client communication.
Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
- Report patient signalment, problem list, and plan during nursing rounds.
- Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects, and appropriately monitor therapeutic response.
- Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
- Perform phlebotomy.
- Perform physical exams; accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate, and effort.
- Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
- Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Current certification as a Veterinary Technician preferred.
- Experience in an emergency veterinary setting is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to lift and move patients as needed.
- Knowledge of basic first aid and CPR.

Compensation is commensurate with experience.
Schedule
The schedule is flexible but part-time, typically 12-16 hours per week.
