About the Role
This position is a Production Shift Supervisor role at the Plaquemine VCM unit, reporting to the Production Superintendent and Production Assistant Superintendent. The supervisor will oversee Process Technicians, ensuring safe and efficient operations while managing maintenance, training, and procedural compliance.
Responsibilities
- Safely supervise, direct, and coordinate the activities of Process Technicians.
- Manage execution of routine equipment and safety inspections.
- Maintain an adequate supply of materials and manage inventory inspections.
- Develop, implement, and conduct employee training programs related to equipment operations.
- Review and document changes in standard operating procedures and Standard Operating Manuals.
- Train shift personnel on changes to procedures and work instructions.
- Assist in plant shutdown, start-up, and turnaround planning and related activities.
- Evaluate, mentor, develop, coach, and provide feedback to Process Technicians.
- Qualify process technicians in plant areas through verbal competency tests.
- Document and investigate violations of company policy, standard operating procedures, and work practices; take corrective action as needed.
- Comply with all safety procedures.
- Manage operations vacation and call-out scheduling in accordance with Shintech’s policy.
- Ensure maintenance activities are conducted in accordance with Shintech policies and procedures.
- Take necessary actions when mechanical equipment problems arise.
- Oversee the planning, scheduling, and execution of routine and major maintenance activities; collaborate with planners, technicians, and operations daily.
- Improve work efficiency by working with the warehouse to enhance material deliveries and stock.
- Manage and support all emergent and urgent work within the area of responsibility.
- Prepare equipment for maintenance for the next day’s work list and communicate with Operations and Maintenance personnel.
- Manage and optimize overall spending within the area.
- Track progress of work and document lessons learned for future planning and scheduling.
- Oversee backlog management efforts within the area of responsibility.
- Ensure aggressive daily/weekly schedules are developed and followed to improve maintenance execution.
- Help improve work order priorities and allocation of resources when necessary.
- Assist with overtime management to reduce overtime percentages.
- Improve communication between Maintenance and other departments (Operations, Engineering, Safety, etc.).
- Review and approve operations overtime and timesheets.
- Work directly with Electrical, Instrument, Analyzer, and Mechanical Supervisors regarding scheduling of work tasks.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience in manufacturing or related military experience.
- An accredited associate’s degree in Chemical Process or Chemical Technology, or a Chemical Process Certificate may substitute for experience.
- Completed certification in all VCM operator jobs.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5 years of VCM operations experience.
- Prior step-up supervisor experience.
- Previous supervisory experience.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to access all plant areas, including the use of PPE in specific areas.
- Regularly required to push, pull, bend, and stand/walk for long periods on cement foundations.
- Must be able to climb stairs, straight ladders, and structures.
- Occasionally required to stoop and kneel.
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Must coordinate movement of eyes, hands, feet, and fingers to operate tools and equipment.
- Required to be medically certified for respirator use and medically fit for duty.
- Work in all weather conditions, under emergency conditions, and for prolonged periods.
Schedule
Available to work 12-hour rotating shifts, overtime, weekends, and holidays.
