Workdays & Hours: 7:00 am – 4:00 pm (subject to change)

About the Role

Plans, coordinates, and directs the activities of groups of employees engaged in providing Collection System, Wastewater Treatment Plant Maintenance, and/or Lift Station services. Organizes and assigns work to collection-system maintenance crews, monitors work in progress, and ensures crews have adequate supplies and properly functioning equipment. Analyzes and resolves staff, equipment, and operating problems; reviews and recommends changes to operations policies and procedures to increase efficiency. Trains new employees, maintains attendance records, and prepares periodic employee performance evaluations and production reports. Assists with daily operations tasks as needed, drives City vehicle, and oversees preventive maintenance of assigned vehicles, yard, equipment, plant machinery, and tools. Observes and enforces safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Prepare periodic employee performance evaluations and production reports
• Assist with daily operations tasks, including driving City vehicle
• Oversee preventive maintenance of vehicles, yard, equipment, plant machinery, and tools
• Observe and enforce safety regulations

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Five years of experience in skilled building or mechanical maintenance (may include one year as a Houston Water Operations Technician)
• One year of directly related college or vocational education may substitute for up to one year of work experience
• An Associate’s degree or higher may substitute for two years of the experience requirement
• Valid Texas Driver's License and compliance with City of Houston driving policy (AP 2-2)

Preferences

• Knowledgeable in wastewater collection systems, treatment plants, lift stations, and/or consent-decree related items
• Eligible veteran applicants who meet qualifications for the position

Working Conditions

• Routine lifting of moderately heavy items (up to 40 pounds)
• Very long periods of walking on rough surfaces
• Routine exposure to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture, and air pollution
• Tier I Emergency Management position within Houston Public Works
